In February 2021, at the Jospong Leadership Conference, the Jospong Academy was incepted and first made public. By March 2021, true to his word, the Executive Chairman gave GHS 3million to the Academy. A work plan and budget were thereafter put in place and approved by the COO. The Academy’s first training course began almost immediately on 10 March 2021, with a Basic IT Training programme for drivers of Zoomlion at the AISWAM Block where the Academy mainly operates from.The Jospong Academy represents the Jospong Group of Company’s Centre of Excellence in the area of Learning and Development (L&D).
Scholarship
The Scholarship Scheme was introduced by the Jospong Academy with the support of the Executive Chairman in 2021. Its aim is to provide financial support to selected candidates who are employees of JGC, and who wish to further their education.
The employees would be pursuing courses that are either aligned to the business strategy as a whole or closely linked to the employee’s area of work.
Partnerships
The Jospong Academy partners with academic institutions to drive the Jospong Group’s employee capacity-building interventions.
Since 2016, the Learning and Development Unit which has metamorphosed into the Jospong Academy has partnered with four major institutions and has also had dealings with Ashesi University and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
E-Learning
Synchronous Learning – this is where groups of people are put together to learn the same thing at the same time and at the same pace. It is a useful approach to learning that spawns cross learning. This however, has its own challenges such as that people have different ways of learning and at individual paces.
Asynchronous Learning – Here people study individually and at their own pace. It was through this concept that the Jospong Academy invested in the E-learning platform called the Talent Learning Management System (TalentLMS). On this platform, there are over 300 courses in over 30 subject areas. Below is a list of the subject areas covered on TalentLMS:
Mentorship
Mentorship is a period of time when one receives guidance in a particular area of life or work expertise, by an experienced person who is proven to be successful in that area(s).
The purpose of mentoring then is for the mentee to tap into the existing knowledge, skills and experience of the mentor, in order to advance in their life and career.
